
Diving and Snorkeling in Alor
Alor offers an underwater adventure unlike anywhere else, with around 60 different dive sites and a variety of environments, the vibrant marine life just waiting to be explored. The Pantar Strait, nestled between Alor and Pantar islands, is renowned for its stunning coral walls, colorful slopes, volcanic formations, and fields of swaying anemones. Swimming alongside schools of tropical fish makes every dive or snorkel session feel like stepping into a thriving underwater world.
Kalabahi Bay presents a completely different, but equally fascinating experience. Its black and white sandy slopes, rocky formations, and rubble areas are ideal for muck diving. Beneath the seemingly simple terrain, you’ll discover rare and wonderful creatures like the wonderpus octopus, different types of frogfish, and the elusive rhinopias scorpionfish.
Our local snorkel and dive guides know these waters intimately and will take you to the best spots based on your interests. Even the boat rides are exciting, with chances to see pods of playful dolphins, melon-headed whales, and, if you’re lucky, the magnificent blue whale. During the right season and moon cycle, you might even spot a mola mola near the surface, drawn by the nutrient-rich upwellings.

From march and onwards it is good diving year around with the visibility being at its best (40m+) from June to September

When is the best time to visit Alor?


Scalloped Hammerhead schools
Hammerheads are most likely to make an appearance from march-may and september-december, and mostly after full moon and new moon when the tides are changing in the mornings.


Pygmy Blue Whales and Sperm Whales
The sightings of pygmy blue whale and sperm whale starts in June and last until November, indicating the start and end of the migration period. The peak of the migration is from September until November so if you want to do whale watching tours, this would be the best time. Find our more about our whale watching offerings here.
Sightings of Mola-Mola can be year round since they comes with the upwelling of colder water from the deep, but there is a bigger chance of spotting these is from June to September

Daily Excursions
We offer daily dive trips in the stunning Alor Marine Park, with up to three dives per day from our speedy and comfortable boats. Most dive sites are just a 20-minute ride away, ensuring more time in the water and less time traveling.
To prioritize safety and personalized experiences, we maintain a maximum 4:1 diver-to-guide ratio, with each boat accommodating up to three small groups. For those seeking a more exclusive experience, private guides are available upon request.
If travel companions are split between different groups, we do our best to ensure that everyone enjoys the same incredible underwater adventures
Diving schedule and logistics
At Moko Alor Dive, we tailor each day’s dive schedule based on guest preferences, tidal changes, and current conditions. Our experienced local guides, who know Alor’s waters better than anyone, will ensure you explore the best dive sites at the perfect times. We do two morning dives before lunch, then return back to the resort to eat and after lunch we do a third dive. we try to change dive sites so you get a mix of reef, wall and muck diving every day.
One of the many perks of staying with us is the exclusivity and tranquility that Alor offers. With small groups and no crowds, you’ll enjoy a more intimate and personalized diving experience in this remote and pristine archipelago.
We provide full-service support to make your diving hassle-free. Forget about carrying tanks, organizing gear, or setting up your equipment—unless you prefer to handle it yourself. All you need to do is suit up, hop on the boat, and backroll into the crystal-clear waters.
By booking a full-board package, you can enjoy up to three boat dives per day, along with unlimited unguided house reef dives if you're an advanced diver.

Located on the southern coast of Alor Island and exposed to the cooler waters of the Savu Sea, Wolang Cave offers a truly unique diving experience. The site features fascinating topography with two impressive caves. One contains an air pocket, while the other allows divers to swim through and emerge on the opposite side. Due to its open location, the site may experience some swell, adding an extra thrill to the dive.
Inside the caves, you can encounter a variety of marine life, including sleeping nurse sharks, bamboo sharks, electric clams, and sweetlips. Just beyond the caves, the open blue often reveals sightings of blacktip reef sharks, thresher sharks, bluefin trevally, and other pelagic species

Situated in the northern part of Pantar Island, Yellow Corner is a must-visit dive site for those seeking thrilling encounters with large pelagic species. This deep dive location (30-40 meters) features a dramatic wall where strong currents push nutrient-rich water from the depths, creating the perfect environment for marine life to thrive.
Divers here are often rewarded with sightings of schools of scalloped hammerheads, white tip, black tip, gray reef, and silver tip sharks. The site also attracts majestic eagle rays, mobula rays, tunas, large schools of surgeonfish and bigeye trevally.


Anemone City is one of Alor’s most beautiful dive sites, known for its endless fields of vibrant anemones. Home to countless clownfish and other colorful marine life, the site feels like an underwater garden in full bloom. The gentle slope of the reef is dotted with coral bommies and teeming with fish of all shapes and sizes.
With crystal-clear water and nutrient-rich currents, it’s also common to spot passing pelagic fish and other exciting marine creatures.
Animone city


Mucky Mosque (Ampera)
Nestled inside Kalabahi Bay, this is one of our premier muck diving sites, offering a haven for macro enthusiasts and underwater photographers. The volcanic black sand provides the perfect backdrop to spot an incredible array of rare and fascinating marine life.
While not known for its coral reefs, this dive site is home to some of the ocean's most elusive critters. Keep an eye out for vibrant rhinopias in various colors, wonderpus, harlequin shrimp, mandarin fish, velvet and ornate ghost pipefish, flamboyant cuttlefish, and a variety of frogfish. You'll also find an abundance of colorful shrimps and nudibranchs.


Bama Wall (The great wall of pantar)
The Great Wall of Pantar is a stunning drift dive along a dramatic vertical wall on the eastern side of Pantar Island. Covered in vibrant corals, sea fans, and sponges, the wall drops into the deep blue, creating a breathtaking underwater landscape.
Riding the gentle currents, divers can enjoy encounters with schools of fusiliers, snappers, barracudas, and reef sharks. The site also offers hidden gems for macro lovers, including nudibranchs, shrimps, and tiny crabs tucked in coral crevices.
With excellent visibility and dynamic marine life, this site is perfect for intermediate to experienced divers.
Kal’s Dream is one of Alor’s most iconic dive sites, famous for its vibrant marine life and breathtaking underwater scenery. Situated in the Pantar Strait, this pinnacle dive is often swept by nutrient-rich currents, attracting a dazzling array of marine species and making it a hotspot for pelagic encounters.
The pinnacle itself is adorned with colorful corals teeming with life. Schools of fusiliers, bigeye trevally, and snappers swirl around the rock, while barracudas and tunas patrol the blue. For shark enthusiasts, sightings of reef sharks and occasional hammerheads add an extra thrill. Keep an eye out in the blue because you never know what can go past this dive siter
Due to the often strong currents, Kal’s Dream is best suited for experienced divers.

Moko House Reef
One of the highlights at Moko Alor Dive Resort is our pristine house reef, stretching 1.5 kilometers and naturally divided into two segments: Tina's Wall to the north and Moko House Reef to the south. Situated within a sheltered bay, it provides calm waters and a gentle slope from 2 to 20 meters, making it perfect for both beginners and seasoned divers.
The reef is vibrant and full of life, with flourishing hard and soft corals, schools of colorful reef fish, and frequent sightings of blacktip and baby grey reef sharks. Hawksbill and green turtles often glide through the waters, while macro enthusiasts can search for hidden treasures such as frogfish, shrimp, and vibrant nudibranchs.
Night dives on the house reef are a favorite experience, offering the chance to see nocturnal marine creatures in their natural habitat. During evening low tides, guests can even join local children for torch-lit tidal pool explorations—a fun way to discover small marine creatures while learning to respect and protect the delicate reef ecosystem.






Snorkeling Trips
If you're not a diver, snorkeling is a fantastic way to experience Alor’s incredible underwater world. At Moko Alor Dive, we offer snorkeling trips to some of the best spots in the area, whether from our house reef or by boat.
Our house reef, located just in front of the resort, is easy to access and perfect for all skill levels. Here, you can spot reef fish, turtles, and even blacktip reef sharks in calm, clear waters.
For a bigger adventure, our boat trips take you to top snorkeling sites around Alor. You’ll glide over coral gardens, seagrass beds, and drop-offs where you might see eagle rays, schooling fish, and sometimes even a dugong.
With warm waters and great visibility year-round, snorkeling in Alor is an easy and rewarding way to explore the ocean, even if you’re not a diver.


Freediving Trips
We also offer specialized freediving trips for groups who want to focus exclusively on freediving. Alor is an ideal destination, with crystal-clear waters and a diverse range of dive sites catering to all skill levels. Most sites extend down to 30 meters, making them perfect for both beginners and advanced freedivers. In addition to vibrant coral reefs, dramatic drop-offs, and stunning swim-throughs, Alor has a deep-rooted freediving culture. The local fishermen have practiced freediving for generations, using traditional techniques to catch fish without scuba gear. Their skill and connection to the ocean add a unique cultural element to the freediving experience, making Alor a truly special place to explore.








PADI Courses
At Moko Alor Dive, we offer PADI courses for those who want to learn to dive or improve their skills. Our experienced instructors provide a safe and relaxed learning environment, with small groups for personal attention.


PADI Advanced Open Water Course (2-3 days)
Take your diving to the next level with five adventure dives, including deep diving (up to 30 meters) and navigation. This course helps build confidence and expand your skills in different underwater environments.
Learn how to prevent and manage diving emergencies while becoming a more confident and capable diver. This course includes theory, skill practice, and realistic rescue scenarios.
PADI Open Water Course (3-4 days)
Perfect for beginners, this course teaches you the basics of scuba diving through theory sessions, confined water practice, and four open water dives. By the end, you'll be certified to dive up to 18 meters anywhere in the world.
PADI Rescue Diver Course (3-4 days)
We also offer specialty courses like Deep Diving, Night Diving, and Underwater Photography. If you're looking to go pro, we provide Divemaster training as well.
